Android phones offer either internal USB storage or expandable storage via microSD cards. This storage space is user accessible and can be used to hold your music, videos, pictures or just about anything else. We'll show you how to manage that space and transfer files from PC to Android phone in this tutorial.

Tutorial Notes

NOTE: This video uses an older Android device. The tutorial notes below have been updated to account for newer devices as well.

· Start with your Android phone unplugged, then insert the USB cable that came with our phone and connect the other end to a USB port on our computer.

· On the phone screen, the USB connection icon will come up in the alerts bar at the top of the screen. Swipe down and tap the USB connection option to choose your connection type. Choose MTP for a media sync.

· The computer will detect a media device and our phone's storage will appear as a standard removable drive. Click to enter.

· You'll now see everything that's currently stored on our USB or microSD card storage. This includes any apps that we've moved to SD card storage along with a DCIM folder where you'll find images and videos shot on the phone.

· To transfer a file from the phone to the computer, simply select the files or folders you want to copy and drag them to a folder on your computer to copy.

· To transfer music to the phone, go back to the root directory for the USB storage. If you don't already have a Music folder, create one. Dropping your audio files here will help to keep everything organized and you can also create sub-folders for artists or albums.

· Once you're finished transferring files and folders, eject the USB storage drive from your computer. In Windows, use the Safe Eject option. On a Mac, simple click the Eject button.

· With the drive unmounted from the computer, it's now safe to turn off USB storage on your phone. Tap the appropriate button and you can then unplug the USB cable.
